IN THE HEART OF THE COUNTRY STIRS A POWERFUL, NATIONAL WRESTLING PRESENCE PUTTING FORTH OLYMPIC CHAMPIONS AND INSPIRING YOUNG MAN IN THE NEW BOOK, THE UNBEATABLE MAN BY MATT FUREY. The book captures the heart of a champion very much like the famous Hoosiers story that molded young high school men to defy the odds and garner a national title. As a young man living in rural Iowa, Matt Furey was the punching bag for his four brothers. When one of his brothers challenged him, he stepped into the wrestling world, only to soar to new heights both as an athlete and as a person. Learning from his older brother s mistakes, Matt made it his mission to stay away from the partying and antics that many high school kids discover.
An accomplished athlete in both swimming and wrestling, Matt became the celebrity from his small town on his quest for a state title in wrestling. In the wrestling world, Iowa has brought up many world champions. These great wrestlers before him motivated Matt. He spent hours reading and rereading their books. He went to summer camp where they taught. To be in their presence meant the world to him, as he plotted along his journey to win a state, then national title.
In THE UNBEATABLE MAN, Matt documents his quest to compete in the state high school tournament and possibly go on to the nationals in his weight category. He shares with the reader his unwavering dedication to the sport and his ultimate goal, to go to University of Iowa and train with the greats in the sport of wrestling. Matt pens an exciting tale of how a young man in his late teens can stay on track, not be seduced by the new independence of high school festivities, girls and drugs to achieve a goal.
These lessons have stayed with Matt and have aided him in his endeavors as a successful entrepreneur. In society when so many teens are faced with these crossroads in life, it is a valuable resource to help guide teens on the right track. Throughout the book, Matt speaks to the reader through his own experience. He explains his reasoning and motivation. When he accomplishes what he achieves, he sets a new goal to pursue. Even when he doesn t achieve a goal exactly the way he set out to get there, he begins working towards the next goal. THE UNBEATABLE MAN can direct many young high school age men struggling with their own crossroads and help them make the right decisions.

I got this book and read it within two days, easy reading, hard to put down. His devotion to wrestling is incredible. I really like the concept/theory of the 10,000 hour rule. This is the idea that it takes approximately 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to master a skill. But it's not only the hours; it's the passion and hard work day in day out, all with a sense of diligence and purpose. Matt Furey had many bitter defeats along the way, could have stopped his aim. I'm in awe on how he just kept plugging away. This book is about hard work and how it rewards you. This book is inspiring and the idea can cross over to inspire your chief goals in life.Product details

Almost as riveting as listening to Matt tell stories in person, "The Unbeatable Man" gives you an internal perspective into the heart of a champion. Along the way, you discover lessons that can serve you throughout all of life. Lessons about how other people inspire... and tear down. Insight into using success... and failure. Discoveries of the power of gratitude... and will.
Matt is a champion on the mat and in the business world, and this book tells the story of how he got started on that path. His early lessons frame a foundation that you can emulate to discover the character within you and what you are capable of accomplishing. You'll meet the characters who shaped his life, from his father's shocking response to Matt's rebellion to lessons learned in the living room from a dear family friend.
Would you like to discover the unbeatable man within you? Would you like to learn from every circumstance of your life--especially those that seem to be crushing defeats? Then read Matt Furey's "The Unbeatable Man" with a pen and pad at hand. Take notes, then take action. Be the champion you are.
In The Unbeatable Man, Matt Furey takes the reader on a trip down Furey's Memory Lane. As a senior in high school, Furey wrestled for the state championship in Iowa. He recounts the story in fine, engaging detail. As a story, it makes for an entertaining read.
The Unbeatable Man is far more than a story, though. It is also a blueprint for achieving success in any arena of life, be it a wrestling mat or a business meeting. Without preaching or beating the reader over the head, Furey presents principles of success.
At 125 pages, The Unbeatable Man does not require a great time commitment for reading; however, even ten pages is too many if the material is not worthwhile. Furey's storytelling ability combined with his message make The Unbeatable Man a fantastic read and a good investment.
There are certain people that seem to make a decision, develop a focus or a drive towards a goal at a very early age and never deviate. It doesn't seem to matter what the goal is. I've seen it in actors and scientists, pilots and soldiers. Matt Furey made just this kind of decision about the time he was a freshman in high school. His goal was wrestling and he stuck with it through the difficult years of high school where it is easy for young men to move in the direction of festivities, girls and drugs to their detriment.
It's also important to remember that intermediate goals change from time to time. Being the best in high school gets replaced at graduation. In Mr. Furey's case it then became being the best in college, then on to the nationals and internationals. Eventually those goals have to be replaced as the body ages and younger stars come along. But the training and the focus that lead to wrestling championships took him to sharing his insights into business, fitness and personal development that became sold out seminars and eventually this book. He shares his philosophies, his knowledge with other people that just may help them to succeed in their own lives.
Matt Furey knows how to write an exciting book. I couldn't put it down and I'm not a wrestling fan. He writes about encouragement and perseverance.
I read this book cover to cover as soon as it arrived. Very inspiring. Well written and applicable to everyday action.
I recommend this short read for young men, especially wrestlers and fighters.
